I like to paint and draw from life whether it is a still life, a landscape, a portrait, or the human figure. My paintings sometimes have a lot of paint on them! For me, part of the meaning and joy in painting is the paint itself!
I grew up in Oklahoma and loved to draw, read books, and play music, first on the piano and then the violin. After high school, I went to the Juilliard School in New York City to study violin and stayed in the Big Apple to pursue my music career as a violist until 2000, performing in many groups including the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
The last couple of years I was in New York I took drawing, anatomy, and pastel classes at the Art Students League. After retiring from the music business, I relocated to Prescott, AZ and began taking art courses at Yavapai College. I started oil painting two years later, studying first with Steve Mason and then with renowned artist Paul Abbott. My art has been included in exhibitions at the Mountain Artists Guild Spotlight Room, Prescott Center for the Arts, ’Tis Gallery, Sunday at Schemer in Scottsdale, fine art shows at the Prescott Courthouse Square, and a solo exhibition of 23 paintings at the Raven Restaurant, Prescott. In these venues my work has been awarded Honorable Mention, First Place, People’s Choice and Best of Show. As an Emerging Artist at the Sedona Center for the Arts I won a First Place and Third Place. In 2017 I was awarded First Place for Painting in the Professional category at the Sedona Center for the Arts.
I have been represented by the Grayleaf Galleria Prescott, the Natural Accents Gallery of Prescott and the Natural Accents sister Gallery of Taos, and the Bearstrap Trading Company of Camp Verde. Guest shows include ’Tis Gallery, Prescott and the Prescott Artist Co-op for my “Feminine Appeal” Exhibition. I have been juried into and had my own booth at Sundays at Schemer Scottsdale, the Best Fest Arizona Centennial, and the Phippen Western Art Show and Sale 2015. Also, in 2015 I was honored to have representation and an exhibition of my work at the Agora Gallery in New York City.
